Deloris Van Cartier is a disco diva who witnesses a murder and is subsequently placed in protective custody. Cops place her in the one place where they’re sure no one would suspect Deloris to be: a convent!
However, the rigid lifestyle — and uptight Mother Superior — are too much for Deloris to handle and soon, not even her nun’s clothing will keep her disguised! She uses her disco moves and incredible singing to inspire the choir. The church and community love it, but it blows her cover.
Next thing you know, the bad guys are in hot pursuit — but they’ll now have to win against Deloris and her sisterhood. From start to finish, this Broadway show is fun and active, full of outrageous dancing, powerful gospel music, and, of course, a moving story you’ll love.
“Sister Act” has a rich history deserving of its fame:
- It’s based off the 1992 film of the same name. Music is by Alan Menken, lyrics are by Glenn Slater, the book is by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner, and additional book material is by Douglas Carter Beane.
- The original West End production was June 2, 2009.
- This Broadway musical has been nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It was also nominated for five Drama Desk Awards and four Laurence Olivier Awards.
