Announcing SDMT Academy’s Winter Semester!
We are thrilled to announce our winter semester of classes, with something for every age and every interest! Musical theatre combines three major performing elements: singing, acting, and dancing, and we strive to provide an assortment of classes that dive into all three of these! Keep reading below to find out about the amazing classes we have lined up for our winter semester, and then sign up to join the fun today!
In addition to our group classes, the Academy continues to offer private dance and voice lessons by inquiry! Musical Theatre Explorers: Disney (Grades K-2)
Sundays 9:30am-10:45am | Jan 10 – Feb 14 | $125
A weekly class for grades K-2 where students will explore song, dance, and storytelling through imagination and play using music from iconic Disney movies and Disney on Broadway! The perfect class for those looking for an introduction to the world of musical theatre as well as those who have already been bitten by the theatre bug!
Youth Jazz/Tap Dance Fundamentals (Grades 3-6)
Saturdays 9:30am-10:45am | Jan 9 – Feb 13 | $130
A dance class for grades 3-6 where students will learn proper technique to be able to be successful in musical theater. Students will get experience in both musical theatre style dance as well as tap dance to work at being a well rounded performer. For students with 0-1 years of dance and tap experience.
The ABC’s of Broadway (Grades 3-6)
Tuesdays 5pm-6pm | Jan 12 – Feb 16 | $125
Similar to our MT Explorers class this new course is a weekly survey for grades 3-6. Students will explore song, dance, and storytelling using imagination and play. This is the perfect class for those looking for an introduction to the world of musical theatre as well as those who have already begun exploring Musical Theatre and want a bit more.
Beginner Tap (Grades 3-12)
Saturdays 11am-12pm | Jan 9 – Feb 13 | $130
A tap class for those looking to explore and learn the basics of tap. For Grades 3 and up, this class is designed to give students a self and welcoming space to try a new dance skill. This course is aimed to teach and build on tap fundamentals including warmups, across the floors, tap terminology, and basic tap combinations.
Intermediate Tap (Grades 3-12)
Saturdays 11am-12pm | Jan 9 – Feb 13 | $130
A tap class for those who have tap experience and are looking to expand on their tap experience and knowledge. For Grades 3 and up, this class is designed to give students a self and welcoming space to try a new dance skill. This course is aimed to build on tap existing fundamentals and will also include warmups, across the floors, tap terminology, and basic tap combinations. At least 2 years of tap training is recommended for this class.
Middle School Musicianship (Grades 5-8)
Tuesdays 6pm-7:20pm | Jan 12 – Feb 16 | $165
A 6 week course where students will learn musicianship fundamentals for the actor. Using musicianship foundations this class will explore music theory, group singing, part singing, piano proficiency, and auditory analysis
Teen Dance (Grades 7-12)
Saturdays 9:30am-10:45am | Jan 9 – Feb 13 | $130
An open level teen dance class where students will work on improving their dance technique, picking up choreography, and learning different musical theatre dance styles. All open level classes are designed to help beginner dancers get the foundation they need while also challenging our more advanced dancers.
Adult Dance: Open Level (Ages 18+)
Sundays 9:30am-10:45am | Jan 10 – Feb 28 | $180 ($25 Drop-In Option)
An open level adult dance class where students will work on improving their dance technique, picking up choreography, and learning different musical theatre dance styles. All open level classes are designed to help beginner dancers get the foundation they need while also challenging our more advanced dancers.
