CONFLICTS: Please look at the production calendar before making your appointment. It is located under the Registration Form tab on Casting Manager or click HERE. You may only have conflicts between January 9-27 to be considered, but it is always better to have no conflicts at all. If you have any conflicts beyond January 27 or any performance date, please do not sign up to audition. Thank you for understanding!

SINGER CALL – Sunday, September 10 starting at 5pm
The following roles should sign up for the Singer Call… Tevye (AEA Contract Available), Golde (understudy), Tzeitel (understudy), Hodel, Chava, Shprintze & Bielke, Motel Kamzoil (understudy), Perchik, Fyedka, Yente, Lazar Wolfe, Mordcha, Avram, The Constable, Grandma Tzeitel/Shaindel, Fruma-Sarah/Rifka and The Rabbi (understudy).

You should also plan to attend the Dance Call the next day on Monday, September 11 if you are auditioning for Perchik, Hodel, Fyedka and Chava. Just be sure to email me at jill@sdmt.org and let me know that you will be attending that call as well.

DANCE CALL – Monday, September 11 starting at 6pm
Seeking Dancers who sing with ballet and contemporary dance experience. If you are auditioning for Mendel, Nachum, The Fiddler, Russian Dancers/Bottle Dancers and onstage swings, please sign up for the Dance Call starting at 6pm. Please also prepare 16 bars of a song in the style of the show should you be asked to stay and sing after the dance call.

If you attended the Singer Call the day before on Sunday, September 10 for the roles of Perchik, Hodel, Fyedka and Chava, please attend this Dance Call as well by emailing me at jill@sdmt.org and let me know you will be attending.

CALLBACKSunday, October 1 starting at 6pm
Should you be invited back to the callback, you will find the sides on our website at www.sdmt.org, or on Casting Manager at least one week prior to the Callback.

VIDEO SUBMISSIONS – Friday, September 8
If you cannot attend the Singer Call but can attend the callback on Sunday, October 1, please sign up on Casting Manager as a video submission and submit your vocal audition through Casting Manager by the morning of Friday, September 8.

If you cannot attend the Dance Call but can attend the callback on Sunday, October 1, please sign up on Casting Manager as a video submission and submit your dance audition/reel through Casting Manager by the morning of Friday, September 8.

PREPARATION
Singer Call: Plan on arriving 10 minutes before your appointment time to check-in. Prepare 32 bars of a song in the style of the show that shows off vocals and comic timing. Bring one stapled headshot/resume. An accompanist will be provided so bring sheet music in the correct key.

Dance Call: You can check-in starting at 5pm and the studio will be open to stretch at 5:30pm. Please be warmed up and ready to dance at 6pm. Bring one stapled headshot/resume and prepare 16 bars of a song in the style of the show should you be asked to stay and sing after the dance call. An accompanist will be provided so bring sheet music in the correct key.

All performances at the SDMT Stage in Kearny Mesa.
Show Run: Friday, February 9 – March 10, 2024
Show Schedule: Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays at 7p and Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm.

PAY
AEA: Guest Artist Tier 2 $516 a week
Non-union: $16.30 an hour for rehearsal and performances. Performances will be a four-hour minimum. Favored nations.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Tevye – One AEA contract available for this role.
PLEASE ATTEND SINGER CALL

(Stage age: 40-55): Tevye is a Jewish milkman navigating the changing times as his three daughters go on three separate journeys all which challenge his relationship with faith. Seeking an excellent, dynamic, charismatic actor with a keen sense of humor and excellent comic timing. Although often portrayed as a larger man, the original Tevye in the Sholem Aleichem stories, was not. Any physical type is welcome. Vocals: strong baritone sound (Ab2-F4).

Golde – Role has been cast. Seeking understudy.
PLEASE ATTEND SINGER CALL
(Stage age: 40-55): Tevye’s no nonsense wife of 25 years and mother to their five daughters. Although she possess a dry wit and can often be stern, there are hints of warmth and affection. Seeking an excellent actor with emotional range, comic timing. Vocals: alto/mezzo (A3-Eb5).

Tzeitel – Role has been cast. Seeking understudy.

(Stage age: 18-25): Tevye and Golde’s daughters, who each symbolize different facets of the cultural shift happening in their society. Tzeitel, the eldest, defies tradition by choosing her own husband out of love. Vocals: mezzo (B3-D5).

Hodel 
PLEASE ATTEND BOTH SINGER AND DANCE CALL
(Stage age: 17 – 24): Tevye and Golde’s daughters, who each symbolize different facets of the cultural shift happening in their society. Hodel falls for an outsider, Perchik, who challenges their customs. Must have an excellent singing voice. Vocals: mezzo/soprano (B3-E5).

Chava 
PLEASE ATTEND BOTH SINGER AND DANCE CALL
(Stage age: 15 – 20): Tevye and Golde’s daughters, who each symbolize different facets of the cultural shift happening in their society. She falls in love with a non-Jewish Russian, which tests Tevye’s tolerance. Must dance ballet well. Vocals: mezzo (B3-D5).

Shprintze & Bielke
PLEASE ATTEND SINGER CALL
(Stage age: 8-14): Shprintze and Bielke, the two youngest daughters. Vocals: any range, sings only with ensemble.

Motel Kamzoil – Role has been cast. Seeking understudy.
PLEASE ATTEND SINGER CALL
(Stage age: 20-35): Motel is a meek and poor tailor who is in love with Tzeitel. He transforms from a nebbish into a man who stands up for his love. Seeking a sympathetic, vulnerable, appealing actor with strong comedic skills and a tenor voice. Vocals: baritone/tenor (E3-F#4).

Perchik
PLEASE ATTEND BOTH SINGER AND DANCE CALL
(Stage age: 20-35): Perchik is an eager, intellectual, and radical student who symbolizes modern thinking and secularism. He falls love with Hodel and influences her to question the traditions that bind her. Seeking an excellent dynamic actor with a strong tenor voice. Vocals: lyric baritone (B2-E4).

Fyedka 
PLEASE ATTEND BOTH SINGER AND DANCE CALL
(Stage age: 20-30): Fyedka is a young, Christian Russian. Unlike some of his contemporaries, he is kind and open minded. He weds Chava, which unfortunately alienates her from her family. The role requires a strong Tenor voice and strong dance ability. Vocals: tenor (G3-Ab4).

Yente 
PLEASE ATTEND SINGER CALL
(Stage age: 35-60): Yente is the village matchmaker. This role requires an excellent character actress with superb comic timing. Don’t let the age range discourage you. Bea Arthur was only 42 when she originated the role! Vocals: alto (solos F3-Eb4, sings higher with ensemble).

Lazar Wolf
PLEASE ATTEND SINGER CALL
(Stage age 40-60): A well to do butcher and a widower, Lazar Wolf is initially chosen by Tevye to marry Tzeitel. He’s a respected member of the community, but his dreams of marrying Tzeitel are dashed when she chooses Motel. Seeking a strong comic character actor with a powerful baritone voice. Vocals: baritone (C3-Eb4).
