RENT AUDITION SIDES

Actors cast in our pre-professional productions will work with a variety of Directors, Choreographers, Musical Directors and Technical Crew who regularly work our Main stage productions to explore everything it takes to bring Broadway to San Diego!

AUDITION LOCATION:
SDMT Rehearsal Space located at 4650 Mercury Street, San Diego, CA 92111

SEEKING:
YOU MUST BE 14-20 YEARS OLD TO AUDITION FOR THIS PRE-PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTION. Seeking a diverse cast of actor/singer/dancers for this iconic Pulitzer Prize-winning musical that shaped a generation of audiences and taught us all to measure our life in love. SDMT encourages performers of all ethnicities, gender identities and performers with disabilities to attend every audition.

Please check the production calendar HERE and make sure you are available for all rehearsals and performances. You may have a few conflicts between the dates of March 17 – April 4 to be considered but it is always better to have no conflicts at all. Thank you!

Singer Call – Tuesday, December 3, 2019 4p-9p

Callback – Wednesday, December 4, 2019 starting at 4p
(Callback will be by invitation only and will include singing and reading from the script and a dance call.

PREPARATION:
Singer Call: Plan on arriving 10 minutes before your appointment time to check-in. Please bring one headshot and resume. Prepare a 16-bar song in the style of the show. Have a second choice available should the director want to hear a contrasting song. An accompanist will be provided so please have your sheet music marked and in the appropriate key.

REHEARSAL INFORMATION:
First Rehearsal: Tuesday, March 17, 2020
Rehearsal Schedule: Tuesday-Friday 5p-9p, Saturday and Sunday 1p-6p
*Please note on the rehearsal/performance calendar that during tech and dress the hours are longer.

PERFORMANCE INFORMATION:
All performances at the Horton Grand Theatre in downtown San Diego.
Runs: April 17 – May 3, 2020
Show Schedule:  Fridays and Saturdays at 8p and Sundays at 2p

PRODUCTION FEE:
$225 (Due by the first day of rehearsal and includes a video of the production)

RENT AUDITION SIDES

ANGEL DUMOTT SCHUNARD (Male: Vocal Range C3–A4) The eccentric HIV-positive street drummer. A drag queen with heart, an incredible gift of dance and a magnetic personality. He becomes Tom’s lover.

BENJAMIN COFFIN III (Male; Vocal Range Bb2 – F#4) The landlord of Mark and Roger’s apartment building. A former roommate in the loft, Benny traded in his personal morals for power and wealth.

JOANNE JEFFERSON (Female; Vocal Range G3 – E5) A public interest lawyer and headstrong lesbian. She is smart and purposeful in all her decisions. Carries on a tumultuous relationship with Maureen.

MARK COHEN (Male; Vocal Range A2 – G4) Filmmaker and video artist. Knee deep in his own soul-searching, Mark is the typical young artist. He and Roger are roommates in the loft. A bit of a nerd.

MAUREEN JOHNSON (Female; Vocal Range C4 – F5) An unpredictably zany performance artist. Maureen oozes sexuality and used to live in the loft. She has recently dumped Mark for Joanne.

MIMI MARQUEZ (Female; Vocal Range Eb3 – E5) An HIV-positive stripper with drug addictions. Slender and sickly, she conceals it all at her job in the local strip club. She lives in the same building as the loft.

ROGER DAVIS (Male; Vocal Range F2 – A4) A struggling musician and former drug addict. He is reminiscent of Kurt Cobain. Roommates with Mark in the loft and battles with being HIV-positive.

TOM COLLINS (Male; Vocal Range F#2 – A4) A computer genius and liberal professor. He is a nurturer with a smooth and relaxed disposition. Used to be a roommate in the loft and is HIV-positive.
