Announcing SDMT Academy Fall Semester!
SDMT Academy is thrilled to announce our fall semester of classes, with something for every age and every interest! We will again be offering a Musical Theatre Explorers Dance Class for our youngest performers (ages 5-8). For this same age range, we will also be offering a Rodgers and Hammerstein inspired Explorers Class! Another returning class will be Rising Stars, but it will look slightly different than last year! This fall, we are splitting up the program into three separate classes: we will have Rising Stars Dance, Music, and Acting classes throughout the week for our 9-14 year old students. We will bring back the Rising Stars Showcase with a final performance in the new year!
This fall, we are also adding a teen and adult dance class for students ages 15 and up, and we will offer private dance/voice/piano lessons by inquiry! If you’d like to learn more about private lessons, please email academy@sdmt.org!

Musical Theatre Explorers: Rodgers and Hammerstein (Ages 5-8)
MT Explorers: Rodgers & Hammerstein will be a weekly class for ages 5-8. Through song, dance, and playing students will explore the wonderful world of musical theatre through the classic musicals of Rodgers and Hammerstein like Oklahoma, Cinderella, The Sound of Music and many more.

Rising Stars Acting Class (Ages 9-14)
Rising Stars Acting will focus on building confidence, integrating movement, use of expression, and character development in acting performance. Students will work through various acting techniques, monologues, group scenes, and audition skills.
Rising Stars Music Class (Ages 9-14)
Rising Stars Music will be a weekly class focused on helping students grow confident in their musicality. Students will learn singing fundamentals, music theory, solo work, and ensemble singing. This class will also focus on audition preparation and skills like cutting music, and communicating with an accompanist.

Teen/Adult Dance Class (Ages 15+)
Dancers of all skill levels are encouraged to come dance and build upon their existing skill set. Classes will focus on technique strengthening, picking up choreography, and audition skills. The course will be highlighting all forms of musical theatre dance, and thus it will incorporate a wide range of styles. The most prominent will be musical theatre inspired jazz, but there will also be elements of ballet, tap, modern, and many more sprinkled in to give class participants exposure to the full spectrum of dancing they will encounter in musical theatre!
No matter your experience level or future aspirations either in or out of musical theatre, this class and what you get out of it can be tailored to each individual student. Come dance with us!
Private Lessons: Private lessons in dance, voice, and piano available by inquiry to academy@sdmt.org.

TESTIMONIALS ABOUT THE PROGRAM
“Thank you SDMT Academy for providing a way for students to continue to develop their talents during this challenging time. You have experienced teachers who are working in the industry and have a perspective desirable to these rising stars. They challenge & encourage them in a kind & fun way. We will be back!”
– Audrey Deubig“Thank you so much for offering the opportunity of these Zoom tap classes. As I told Barbara I haven’t tapped for 25 years, but she has been so great and supportive of these rusty legs and toes! I’m having a blast! I don’t think I would have had the courage to try tap again if it hadn’t been for this Zoom class. But now, when dance classes open again (whenever that is!) I will find a suitable class to enjoy this activity I love again so well. I’ve signed up for the second session and am looking forward to 8 more weeks of tap!
– Mary Shepperd“This class was challenging and fun. The instructor was able to accommodate many different levels of previous experience. It helped me to connect with others and preserve a bit of normalcy during this strange time.”
– Issac Jackson“Jazz class was so much fun, I really learn a lot. I highly recommend this class if you are new to Jazz dance, I would definitely take this class again.”
– Veronica Vasquez“Allison was a great teacher on the subject on online submissions. I learned some brand new things I didn’t previously know about, she gave great feedback on my video that gave me inside on how to improve for the next time and I highly recommend her to anyone wanting to learn more about this subject.”
– Colden Lamb“What a refreshing, welcome educational opportunity for all young performers to receive professional mentorship and training in their desired field! SDMT has already led the field in setting an example of giving back to the community and reminding all that there is a greater stage than just the ones they are performing on. They now continue to lead the field by creating new avenues for young performers to receive experienced leadership.”
